MIEKO MINTZ GOES WHOLESALE
After a decade in retail, this past February Mieko Mintz decided to expand into wholesale with her line of  clothing. One of her first customers was the Takashimaya department store on Fifth Avenue here in midtown Manhattan. With the retention of a sales rep at the beginning of June, the pace of wholesale growth picked up markedly and she is not only selling to stores in the northeast, but as far away as Santa Fe.
In July she had a show in Osaka, Japan, and in September she had two shows in Tokyo. Her style proved to be as popular with Japanese women as with her clientele in New York. Her signature fabric is kantha from India, which is made out of layers of vintage saris with hand-stitching throughout. When visiting her home city of Miyazaki in southern Japan, Mieko was interviewed on the local news program of UMK television, as a native daughter who had gone to Tokyo and New York and met with great success.
In her store, Mieko still enjoys meeting her customers. They are from New York and around the world, and are the true inspiration for her work.

Takashimaya New York is having a Mieko Mintz Trunk Show from Monday, November 23rd to Sunday, December 6th. Takashimaya presents a unique commingling of Eastern and Western sensibilities inspired by rare and wonderful designs and artisan-made pieces selected from around the globe. Mieko has been particularly honored to have had a wide selection of her work available here.
