Stockinette stitch: Knit RS rows and purl WS rows. If working in round, knit all rounds.
Reverse Stockinette stitch: Purl RS rows and knit WS rows. If working in round, purl all rounds.
Work even: Continue in pattern without increasing or decreasing.
Knitwise: Insert the needle into stitch as if you were going to knit it.
Purlwise: Insert the needle into stitch as if you were going to purl it through back loop.
Knit: Insert needle from right to left under left needle and knit it.
Purl: Insert needle behind (from left to right) and purl it.


Cast On: Placing a foundation row of stitches upon the needle in order to begin knitting.

Long tail cast-on (Double cast-on):
Lay the yarn over the needle with the long tail toward you. Place thumb and index finger between yarn ends and spread them apart. Hold both pieces of yarn with your other fingers. Pull the needle down.

Slip it up next to the thumb. Hook the yarn around index finger with needle.

Bring the needle back to the thumb loop. Pull thumb and index finger to tighten the stitch.


Single cast-on(Loop cast-on):
Make a series of backward loops over the needle.


Provisional cast-on(Crochet provisional cast-on):
With waste yarn and crochet hook, make chains. With working yarn, pick up one stitch through the back loop of each crochet chain.


Invisible cast-on (Looping provisional cast-on):
Make a slipknot on needle. Hold waste yarn over the thumb and working yarn over the index finger.

Place needle over the waste yarn and wrap it around the needle from back to front. Place working yarn over the needle from front to back.

Lift up thumb and bring the waste yarn back. Repeat the above to make a desired amount of stitches.
Increase: Add stitches in a row.

Make 1(Raised twisted increase)
Right leaning: With left needle, pick up from back to front into horizontal strand between last stitch and next st and knit front loop to twist it.
Left leaning: With left needle, pick up from front to back into horizontal strand between last stitch and next st and knit back loop to twist it.
Make 1 p-st
Right leaning: With left needle, pick up from back to front into horizontal strand between last stitch and next st and purl front loop.
Left leaning: With left needle, pick up from front to back into horizontal strand between last stitch and next st and purl back loop
kf&b: knit a stitch first through front and then through back.
Bar increase
Knit: Knit 1 st, leave the st on left needle. Insert right needle into back of the same stitch and knit it.
Purl: Purl 1 st, leave the st on left needle. Insert right needle into back of the same stitch and purl it.
Lifted increase
Right: Knit the back head of stitch below next stitch, then knit it.
Left: Knit 1 then with left hand needle pick up side loop of stitch below stitch just off left needle from the back, knit back loop.
Yarn Over: Making a one stitch by wrapping the yarn over right-hand needles.



Decrease: Reduce stitches in a row.

Single Right-Slanting
k2tog : Knit two stitches together.
p2tog: Insert the right needle into the front loops (purlwise) of the next two stitches, purl these stitches together.
Single Left-Slanting
k2tog tbl: Knit two stitches together through the back loop.
p2tog tbl: Insert right needle from left into back loops of 2nd and 1st stitches, then purl both stitches.
skp (sl, k, psso): Slip 1 stitch knitwise, then knit the next stitch. Insert the left needle into the slipped stitch from front. Pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch and off the right needle. ssk (sl, sl, k2tog): Slip 2 stitches knitwise one at a time, insert left needle into fronts of these stitches and knit them together.
Double Right-Slanting
k3tog: Insert right needle into front of next three stitches from left to right, then knit these stitches together.
sl1-p2tog-b-psso: Slip 1 stitch purlwise, purl two stitches together though back loop. Pass slipped stitch over p2tog-b.
p3tog: Insert right needle into front loops, then purl these stitches together.
Double Left-Slanting
k3tog tbl: Knit three stitches together through the back loop.
sl-ssk-psso: Slip three stitches knitwise, one at a time. Insert left-hand needle in front of two stitches and knit them together. Pass 1st slipped stitch over k2tog.
sl-k2tog-psso: Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit next two stitches together. Pass slipped stitch over k2tog.
sssk: Slip next three stitches knitwise, one at a time to right-hand needle. Insert tip of left-hand needle in front of these stitches from left to right. Knit them together.
p3tog tbl: Insert right needle from left into back loops of 3rd, 2nd and 1st stitches, then purl 3 stitches.
Centered Double
sl2-k1-p2sso (sl2tog-k1-psso): Slip two stitches knitwise. Knit next stitch and with left needle pull both slipped stitches over the knit stitch.
sl2-p1-p2sso: Slip 2 stitches knitwise one at a time, return two slipped stitches to left needle.
Insert right needle though back loops of the second and the first slipped stitches, and slip them together off left needle.
Purl next stitch and with left needle, pass two slipped stitches over purl stitch.


Bind Off: Used to finish an edge or segment.

Bind Off: Lift the first stitch over the second, the second over the third, etc.
3-Needle Bind-Off : With the right side of the two pieces facing and the needles parallel, insert a third needle into the first stitch on each needle and knit them together.
Knit the next two stitches the same way. Slip the first stitch on the third needle over the second stitch and off the needle. Repeat for three-needle bind-off.



Wrap and Turn

Right-Side-Row (RSR): Bring yarn to the front of work between needles, slip (sl) next stitch to right-hand needle (RHN), bring yarn around this stitch to back of work, slip stitch back to left-hand needle (LHN), turn.
Wrong-Side-Row (WSR): Bring yarn to the back of work between needles, slip next stitch to RHN, bring yarn around this stitch to front of work, slip stitch back to LHN, turn. Bring yarn to the front of work between needles, slip next stitch to RHN, bring yarn around this stitch to back of work, slip stitch back to LHN, turn.



Wrap and Wrapped Stitch Together

RSR: Insert RHN into both wrap and wrapped stitch, and knit them together.
WSR: Insert RHN from behind into the back loop of wrap and place it on the LHN. Purl it together with wrapped stitch.

Crossed Puff Stitch

First slip stitch on Row 1. Work puff stitch to the stitch with Marker A.


Work puff stitch. Chain stitch after puff stitch.


Next single crochet. Last puff stitch on Row 1.


End of Row 1, slip stitch. Start Row 2.


Insert hook to side and slip stitch.
Insert hook to head of puff stitch.


Insert hook to between puff stitches. Last slip stitch on Row 2.
