Hygge Collection

By February, even those of us who enjoy the winter are getting tired of the cold and dark. Then imagine what it's like in Scandinavian countries! So it isn't surprising that Denmark and Norway have a word, "hygge," that is the exact opposite of cold and bleak. The Collins English Dictionary defines the word as "a concept, originating in Denmark, of creating cozy and convivial atmospheres that promote well-being." Hygge describes a mood of warmth and coziness, of the kind of contentment you might find next to a fireplace with some good friends and family.
Scandinavian people create this atmosphere through the way they decorate and dress, and with food, family, friends and fun! At Mieko Mintz we love this concept and we aim to embody it in both our clothing and in our home accessories and linens. The natural fabrics we use are comfortable against your skin, the quilting adds more softness and warmth, and the fit of the clothing is relaxed– sometimes draped or oversized–all adding to the pure comfort of your own personal hygge! So that should give everyone an idea of what I'm aiming at. Let me know what you think.
